Have you ever run into the problem of needing to fix something on a vehicle while on the road? Unfortunately, this situation can happen on boats too. Things wear out and break down unexpectedly, so it can often leave us stuck until the problem is resolved. We've compiled this list of spare boat parts you should always have on your boat. At Thayer's Marine in Norwich, Connecticut, we are ready and able to help you with all your boating needs. We welcome customers from Springfield, Massachusetts, as well.

Spare Tools

It's good to keep spare tools onboard to fix any problems on your boat, as well. It's critically important to ensure you can handle a breakdown while on the water. Don't let yourself become stranded on the water!

The following is a list of boat parts to keep stored on your boat if you find yourself in a situation where you need to fix something onboard.

Fuses and Spark Plugs

We use fuses in many electrical systems, both big and small, and they're not always reliable. Spark Plugs are also unpredictable and can put a stop to your trip quickly. So you should always keep some extra fuses and spark plugs stored on your boat, especially those for your outboard motor.

Hoses, Hose Clamps, and Fuel Filters

Hoses can be used as temporary fuel or hydraulic lines, and with the hoses, you should also have hose clamps to keep them in place. Cable ties are also helpful in keeping everything in place too. Fuel filters may need to be replaced to protect your engine and keep it running correctly.

Light Bulbs and Batteries

Light bulbs are an absolute necessity, especially navigation bulbs for boating in at night. Also, if you have a dead battery, you could end up in a sorry situation, so a spare battery is a must.

Impellers

Spare impellers are essential because an overheated engine can become damaged. Impellers can break easily, but they're inexpensive and easy to install.

Oil and Other Fluids

Having a few extra quarts of oil and transmission fluid can come in handy. It can temporarily fix a problem to allow you to return to shore.

Ensure you have some basic spare tools and these essential boat parts on board to repair or replace things needed while on the water. It could mean the difference between a temporary fix to come back to the marina and being completely stranded in the middle of nowhere. Feel free to stop by Thayer's Marine in Norwich, Connecticut, for any questions or concerns with your boat. Plus, we serve the Springfield, Massachusetts, area!
